Philip Leith & Pete Dew
A small contingent of the BKC led by Pete Dew set off on their new Novacraft SP3 canoes - showing off the diy wooden gunwales which had been recently fitted - from Newferry past Portglenone to Kilrea. There was very little wind, a good flow of the river, but visibility was down to a one or two hundred yards at most. We lunched just past Portglenone bridge to the right - where there is a small landing place at a car park - including some alcohol in the nearby pub. Paddling on to Kilrea we left the river just before the lock (situated on the left
of the river). No other traffic was seen on the river during the whole trip.
Pete and Mark Clague are seen holding self-made paddles from their growing collection which - it has been claimed - have already caused the demise of two tropical forests.
